Like I've commented in the past, they'll be looking to license(sell aspects) if they get the true ownership of their I/O methodologies.

Built into a chip or not, they are prosecuting tier 1 concentrating on firmware (a combination of hardware and software, or controller elements)...details that others are implementing in a similar manner.

Micro-controllers having the ability of similar code interface along with cache pass through(paging) mechanisms functioning in similar manner to and from a nonvolatile memory entity directly.

It's all about the I/O at this point(the engines).....other than the controller interface to code API, the sophistication of the code is not important for now.
