Mezzo’s iPads, PSPs, and eVU workhorse
The UK's Mezzo came to AIX last month with announced plans to offer iPad, Sony?s PSP, other COTS devices, and e.Digital's eVU PMP that Mezzo chief Dave Sampson has dubbed “the workhorse of the portable IFE business.” In addition to taking on the challenges of repurposing the iPad, the PSP, and the ARCHOS with no distribution agreements with these manufacturers that Mezzo would confirm, Mezzo also introduced disruptive pricing into the PMP sector by offering a US$99 PMP.
Mezzo walks a bit of a fine line between COTS and proprietary, saying of the eVU PMP that “this is still the best product to use” and that “it has proven to be the only dependable PMP.
As other PMPs fall by the wayside, and are replaced by unproven technology, the eVU...continues to deliver reliable IFE day after day.” WIN asked Sampson which content providers have agreed to supply early window content on any of these new devices.
