Hello JOtteman and thank you for your inquiry.
We created the IP tool to allow members to help us identify erreneous behavior within our site. We ask everyone to notify a member of our staff, if they believe any user is operating under more than one guises here.
We plead for everyone's co-operation here, to avoid the arousal of irate conversations, should the IP protocol show that more than one users are logged on using the same IP.
This can come down to a number of differences, including Dynamic IP's, shared routers or wireless devices/HUBs.
In your instance, each computer in your home has a separate IP address. As explained on our IP protocol, the IP tracking tool tracks only the last 2 digits of your IP address. These could vary on some routers or network setups. The first 2 digits of your IP address are logged on our servers database.
To combat possible vote rigging, our staff are privy to a multitude of tools, including members who give the same rating to other users multiple times (e.g. consecutive 5's or consecutive 1's). For the greater part this helps us catch and eliminate abusive behavior before the community is even aware that it is taking place.
Is it full proof? Some may say no, but that is only because no system is impenetrable or perfect.
We trust with your co-operation, we can continue improving our site and keep this community the best small cap space for investors on the web.
Kind Regards,
AGORACOM
