The SamsungGalaxy Nexus with Android 4.0 is official
Google and Samsung have officially announced the world's first Android Ice Cream Sandwichphone and it's called the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The long-rumoured device, which most had suspected would be called the Nexus Prime, was announced just prior to the official unveiled of Android 4.0 in Hong Kong.
The device features a whopping 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED, 1280 x 720 (720p) display and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor along with a pretty sizable 1GB RAM.
The device follows a similar form factor to its predecessor, the Samsung Nexus S, but is thinner at just 8.94mm thick and weighs in just a little heavier at 135g.
The device shoots 1080p video, just like the iPhone 4S, and has a 5-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash. The front-facing snapper comes in at 1.3-megapixel.
The heavily specced-out device also has a new panorama mode and no shutter lag according to Samsung, who leaked the device to its website before the announcement.
As expected, NFC tech remains on board and there's also Bluetooth 3.0, N Wi-Fi and HSPA+ (allowing download speeds of up to 21Mbps) to boost the connectivity side of things.
There's also a proximity sensor and, strangely enough, a barometer and you'll be able to choose from 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.
Of course the big news here is the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich, now officially known as Android 4.0.
Full details of the OS are currently being announced during the launch event in Hong Kong and we'll have a run down of the key features when they become official.
At present there's been no mention of a release date for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, either here or in the US. We'll have that news as soon as it breaks.
