The only consideration I'm conveying, with regards to "cards"....is that some time has past since those days. Back then e.Digitals issues where host device considerations interfacing the card.

IMO, since then, firmware advancements have filtrate from the host device to the card.

If anything , it would be in the card manufacturers interest to protect the integrity of the card directly on the card and, not rely on the host device issues.
It's a product liability thing, no matter what steps a card manufacturer might take in having all host devices manage the integrity....the card manufacturer would be in the middle of litigation issues. They can mitigate that potential problem with on board protection circuitry.

One things for sure, the infringement starts with the host device first....and that's the path they are currently on.

With that, what host controller sits in front of the "media card" port on your PC or lap top?
