If I remember correctly, there have been several individuals on this board that have stated that they haven't sold any shares, even back when the price hit $24.00.
It went up so fast over a short period of time, they probably thought it would go much higher. It's also possible that they didn't sell on the way down thinking it may go up again, an easy thing to do with a volital stock.
By batting average over 30 years with dozens of stock is 90% plus. But I remember not selling a specific stock on a substantial increase and not on the way down. I eventually lost 90% of my investment and learned a valuable lesson about trading.
I don't think it's so amazing, particularly back in the tech day's. A lot of stocks had rapid increases, only to fall back and many left the scene completely, a total loss if you owned the stock.
As to the run up, my opinion is that it was a well orchestrated run that made a lot of people substantial amounts and not driven by the market.
