IMO...The APS description of the original DigEplayers and associated single CC reader to handle all transactions of all players for tracking of units...had to be a pain in the butt for stewards.
There`s steward ID swipe first... then user credit card swipe...then an individual digEplayer ID tag log.. writing it down... where upon collection there`s a reverse procedure.
What`s that worth daily?
Integrating the CC reader into each player.. IMO.. will not eliminate all the tracking required for each device....steward swipe and ID tag logging will still be necessary.
To eliminate the above tracking expense....it needs to be tethered to the seat...as I have seen it displayed with a pocket pouch affixed to the seat.
There would still be a labor issue if power is not within the tether cable.
To make it truly beneficial...Power....802.1x with standard SSID broadcast and WEP/WPA802.1x security would be fine as the pertinent files are encrypted anyway....along with CC readers.
These three features would make the DigePlayer excellent.
Weighing the three against the handling labor could be the balancing act to sell.....even if the devices are placed in a pouch with a tether cable.
Would be nice to see them stuck in a seat back...but hey...one is as good as the other when your talking portable.
