Joe, thats an interesting scenario.... But I think it is not so simple. Take for example, someone accidentally drops his phone from a moving car... Sound sensor picks up a crash noise. Accelerometer detects a sudden stop. 911 Dialed. Nobody answers. Spouse gets an emergency text. They call, nobody answers. Spouse sees on google map, car stopped in on the road. Emergency vehicles are dispatched. Spouse races to the scene in a panic. Fire engines and ambulance find phone along the side of the road....
The example of kids on bikes from the website also isnt realistic. Anyone who has a kid with a cellphone knows how many times a phone gets dropped, tossed in a backpack, thrown across the room.
Just as home security systems are not allowed to dial 911 automatically, I find it likely that cell phones will not be allowed to dial 911 automatically.
I also would not allow my phone to be locked when it detects a travel rate of 10 mph or greater. I ride a train a lot, I like using the phone during that time. If I am riding in the back seat of a taxi, I want to use my phone.
I think the ideas behind Nunchi are cool. But I think actual practical implementation is a long way away.
