As for Ittiam...I put up a list of ports of Ittiam....for WMA/WMV decode.

They are developments managed for their own in house offerings...for different processor platforms. They have the approval of MSFT....MSFT had no involvement other than allowing WMA/WMV usge.

There`s one prior for Ittiam managing WMV....

Ittiam Systems Pvt. Ltd.

WMV Decode

DM342/TMS320DM320

WMV v7-v9 SPML

There are many companies building the abstracts to MSFT....MSFT does not have to reach out to any of them.

Advanced Micro Devices

WMV Decode

CS13xx

WMV SPLL, SPML, MPLL, MPML

Analog Devices Inc.

WMA Decode; WMV Decode

ADSP-21535/ADSP-21535PKB-300X

WMA v2-v9: 5kbps - 384kbps; WMV MPML

Equator Technologies Inc.

WMV Decode

MAP-CA BSP-15

MP@ML

Freescale Semiconductor

WMV Decode

SC140 (StarCore)

WMV 8

Freescale Semiconductor

WMV Decode

TI OMAP/1510

WMV9 SPLL

Freescale Semiconductor

WMV Decode

Motorola Starcore DSP / MSC8101

WMV 9 SPLL

Ingenient Technologies

WMV Decode

TI TMS320DM270

WMV v9 SPLL, SPML

Ingenient Technologies

WMV Decode

TI DM320/TMS320DM320

WMV v9 SPLL, SPML

InterVideo Inc.

WMV Decode

Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz, HT

WMV v7-v9 SPLL, SPML

National Semiconductor Corporation

WMV Decode

Trimedia CS1300

PacketVideo Corporation

WMV Decode

MSM6500/ARM926EJ-S

WMV v2-v9: SPML

Sasken Communication Technologies Limited

WMV Decode

OMAP - 1510 / ES 2.6

WMV v7, v8, v9: SPLL

Texas Instruments

WMV 8 Decoder

OMAP1510

Texas Instruments

WMV Decode

OMAP1510 / OMAP1510CGZG1A

Texas Instruments

WMV Decode

DM642 / TMX320DM642

This list(15) represents approved ports to different processor platforms by MSFT for WMV...it`s but a tiny fraction compared to WMA....and all the different processor...-co-processor...platforms

If e.Digital puts an effort into WMV...it will be for their own effort...not MSFT`s....as all of the above have.

If WMA/WMV becomes prevalent(15 is a very short list)...there would be no problem for e.Digital to bridge to it....at this point I see no reason for them to build the bridge.

What ever abstract Ittiam is currently putting together...through what ever processor platform will be #16.

The only platforms of the above I feel that compete with e.Digital would be the OMAP platforms driven by

DSP-bios...now considered to be an embedded OS...allowing easy device configuration and management.

IMO..the rest where DSP is involved are development specific abstracts.
