KORG DEBUTS KAOSSILATOR PRO+
WINTER NAMM, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, January 24th, 2013 - Korg exhibits the latest addition to their acclaimed Kaoss family: the Kaossilator Pro+ Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer/Loop Recorder. The Kaossilator Pro+ is packed with 250 programs, including more of the cutting-edge synth sounds that Korg is known for. Like all Kaoss-based products, this versatile new instrument offers creative musical possibilities and intuitive control over multiple parameters simply by moving a finger across the X-Y touchpad.
Sixty two of the onboard sounds have been inspired by current musical genres, including familiar leads and synth basses, along with sound effects for DJ use. Also of note are the 26 drum sounds that have been especially enhanced. Updated drum PCM includes sounds from Korg's acclaimed Wavedrum percussion synth for greater performance variety. With a single Kaossilator Pro+ users can perform hip-hop, chiptune, house, dubstep, new disco, electro, reggaeton, and drum 'n' bass, or they can create their own genre.
Loop Recording can be set for up to four measures (16 beats), and performances on the Kaossilator Pro+ can be recorded into the four onboard internal Loop Recorder Banks. By adding (overdubbing) additional sounds one at a time, inspired looped phrases can be created ranging from minimal to fully orchestrated. The four infinitely loop-able banks can be combined, muted or un-muted, their volume adjusted, and their loop lengths changed - making live performance and arranging easy and fun for everyone.
The Kaossilator Pro+ provides line inputs and a mic input to allow recording of external audio sources as well. This makes it easy to add a vocal, or additional audio to any loop phrase created on the Kaossilator Pro+.
User-friendly Key and Scale features ensure that even beginners can play notes that will match the song being performed. Players can choose any of 35 scales, ranging from popular scales such as chromatic, major pentatonic, and minor blues, to unusual scales such as Spanish, Ryukyu, and Raga. Then by using the Key setting to specify a musical key or "root," users can play perfect solos without wrong notes. In addition, the Note Range can be set to a narrow range to ensure that melodies will be played accurately as intended, or to an extremely wide range to allow unexpected phrases to emerge.
The built-in gate arpeggiator patterns can automatically generate phrases and beats by simply moving a finger across the touchpad. The pad LEDs light up along the path of the user's finger, allowing users to perform with ease, even on a dimly lit stage. The four loop recording LEDs have been updated to a new, more intuitive illumination pattern–they now light red during recording and green during playback.
MIDI IN/OUT jacks and a USB port provide easy control over external MIDI devices. Loop data and user settings such as programs can be stored on an SD/SDHC card. The Kaossilator Pro+ Editor provides librarian functionality for loop data as well as a MIDI assignment editor.
The Korg Kaossilator Pro+ will be available April 2013 for a U.S. Street price of $399.99. Additional info is available at korg.com

Korg Debuts Mini Kaoss Pad 2 Dynamic Effect Proces
WINTER NAMM SHOW, ANAHEIM, CA, January 19, 2012 - Korg (booth 6440) announces the Mini Kaoss Pad 2 Dynamic Effect Processor. It offers a familiar Kaoss interface and real-time fingertip effects, packaged in a compact body with battery operation for shirt pocket portability. The new Mini Kaoss Pad 2 is ideal for DJ club performances and for use with a variety of musical instruments, home studio applications and portable audio players.
Following in the footsteps of the Kaoss Pad KP3 and Kaoss Pad Quad, the Mini Kaoss Pad 2 is played by sliding or tapping a finger on the X-Y touchpad. These finger motions allow multiple effect parameters to be easily controlled at the same time.
The Mini Kaoss Pad 2 offers a sleek new design with ergonomic styling, a high-visibility organic electroluminescent (OEL) display, a built-in microphone, an 1/8" stereo input to accommodate nearly any audio source, an internal speaker, battery power and a number of advancements over the original MiniKP. These enhancements include an MP3 player, FX Release, and microSD storage capabilities.
The Mini Kaoss Pad 2 contains 100 diverse, ready-to-use effects. These include standard effects such as Flanger, Filter, Delay, and Reverb; multiple effect programs; cutting edge effects; as well as three new DJ-style effects borrowed from the Kaoss Pad Quad: the powerful Looper, Vinyl Break, and Ducking Compressor.
For live performance, the Mini Kaoss Pad 2 provides three Program Memories for instant recall of any favorite effects. The Hold function freezes the effect parameters at their current location on the touchpad for hands-free operation. Auto BPM detection syncs tempo-based effects to the tempo of the song, so that everything continues to move in sync for a professional performance. The FX Release automatically adds a delay effect when all fingers leave the touchpad, so that the effect blends smoothly into the song or performance, avoiding abrupt effect dropouts.
The Mini Kaoss Pad 2 also provides an MP3 player that can play back audio data from a microSD card. Songs can be saved on the card, and real time effects can be applied to the song as it plays. The playback speed of the internal MP3 player can be varied using the Value slider. The Mini Kaoss Pad 2 also allows the setting of a cue point specifying where in the song playback will start. In addition, the Value slider can be used as a fader to adjust the volume balance between the external audio input and the MP3 player, allowing the Mini Kaoss Pad 2 to be used as a DJ player or a simple mixer. Also for DJ use, the Mini Kaoss Pad 2’s built-in mic can be used as a “shout” mic during a DJ performance to further energize the crowd; effects can be applied to this mic sound.
The audio output (1/8” stereo) can double as a headphone output. The energy-efficient design allows the Mini Kaoss Pad 2 to operate everywhere on just two AA batteries. Six audio examples are stored in memory for demo use.
