Partnering with an old EDIG partner:
GRENOBLE, France – March 21, 2013 - Movea, the leading provider of data-fusion and motion-processing technologies for consumer electronics, today announced its collaboration with STMicroelectronics (ST), a leader both in silicon-based sensing solutions and systems-on-chips for home entertainment, on the integration of Movea’s SmartMotion Server with ST’s Orly set-top box system-on-chip, enabling the easy and rapid deployment of motion-based user interfaces for next-generation connected home systems.
“Consumers’ increasing desire for more natural user interfaces has propelled motion-sensing technologies to become the path to simpler and more immersive entertainment experiences,” said André Bertrand, Technical & Strategic Marketing Director for Unified Platform Division at STMicroelectronics. “Collaboration with Movea will enable us to deliver high-value applications and services to our customers and bring us closer to making the fully connected home a reality.”
Integration of Movea’s SmartMotion Server onto STMicroelectronics system enables set-top box manufacturers to easily implement motion control and differentiate their solutions, as well as drive more revenue generating services from video on demand and gaming. This collaboration is the latest in Movea’s efforts to afford OEMs and ODMs the opportunity to easily and quickly implement motion sensing capabilities into their technology offerings.
With Movea’s SmartMotion Server, the Orly platform will allow for a more immersive multimedia experience, creating a new and fun way for consumers to interact with their TV content, games and other services. The SmartMotion Server provides complete gesture-based interaction support for applications, such as web browsing, VOD catalog, media center and social media navigation and gaming. Subscribers will be able to effortlessly navigate the interface applications and content with natural in-air point-and-click, up and down swipes for easy scroll, gesture recognition and multi touch emulation with motion. Users will also be able to play games using the remote as a controller. For example, with natural wheel drive interaction, they’ll be able to hold and turn the remote as they would do with a real steering wheel.
“Integrating Movea’s SmartMotion Server with its energy efficiency, strong performance, security robustness and impressive graphics rendering, makes the STMicroelectronics Orly platform an ideal system for motion-based applications and services,” said Bryan Hoadley, President of Movea Inc, and Executive VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. “We are thrilled to combine ST’s technology and expertise with Movea’s solutions to deliver the next-generation set-top box and define the standard for the future of home entertainment.”
Movea’s SmartMotion Server is a platform-agnostic and flexible motion engine that makes it possible for systems integrators, OEMs, service providers and application developers to take advantage of Movea’s state-of-the-art motion processing and data fusion technology. To see a demonstration of the SmartMotion-powered Orly platform, visit STMicroelectronics during the China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition (CCBN) in Beijing on March 21-23.
