If memory serves, Atul was promoted around the time EDIG was starting to work with companies in India, such as Ittiam, and others I can`t think of.

It would make sense to promote Atul if it appeared a lot of business was going to be done with companies in India. EDIG even went so far as to have engineers there, didn`t they?

If India is no longer an important area for EDIG, then Atul is no longer needed as CEO, and someone, with contacts that can help in new directons, is needed.

This has happened before. Remember?
