Message: patent troll!

Hmmm... not surprising that one should get in trouble for suggesting that the emperor is naked. So let's try it this way:

If e.Digital/Handal were willing to back up the assertion that e.Digital's patents are important/foundational/valuable by taking infringers to court (Markman/Trial/Appeals) and proving our patents are valid/infringed and royalties owed... just as other companies (like Qualcomm) have done, then I would have no problem with such practice.

OTOH, what they are clearly doing is trying to sue as many organizations (including retailers - what if YOU had a small store selling various electronics products?) as possible - and then settling for very small amounts apparently based on the premise that it is cheaper for the supposed infringer to just pay rather than go to court.

I don't know what is really meant by the slang term 'patent troll', but it appears that e.Digital has 'patents' and is now 'trolling' (fishing) for easy settlement dollars. That may work for awhile but it isn't exactly the best business plan and it is not doing anything to improve shareholder value.

This last 10K was indeed a final turning point for some I think. It was still possible that there would be a positive surprise but there was none. The last two days of volume is telling that story.
