eMMC is nothing more than a carry foward of MMC.

MMC was a competing small form factor removable flash card...similar to SD, as compaired to Compact flash as a large form factor.. Simply, MMC did not gain any traction and fell by the wayside....and SD beat it out.

The development of eMMC(controller and NAND package) then came about for embedding a package directly on PCB, allowing memory storage for cheap computer devices. eMMC competes with SSD's as a cheap alternative. SSD, will eventurally replace eMMC as a faster and more advanced alternative.

This is the line up of infringement that e.Digital is considering againts the recent defendants.

Apacer Technology Inc. et al :

eMMC, SSD, Compact Flash, MicroSD, USB, MicroSATA Chip, SATA SSD Series, PATA SSD Series, Flash Card Series, PCIe SSD Series, and/or NAND Controller products.

Lenovo (United States) Inc. :

embedded memory, SD card memory and/or SSD memory.

Cactus Technologies Limited et al :

eMMC, MicroSD, Compact Flash, SD card, SATA SSD Series, mSATA, CFast, mSATA, Industrial Grade IDE DOM (Disk-On-Module), 806 Series SDChip, and/or NAND Controller products.

Spansion, Inc. et al :

eMMC and ML/MLS NAND Flash Memory products

Greenliant Systems, Inc. et al :

SSD, Specialty Flash Memory, and/or NAND Controller products.

Acer America Corporation :

embedded memory (“eMMC”), SD card memory and/or SSD memory.

For all of the above, e.Digital is going after multiple packaging issues. NAND is the focus memory.... packaged, or not packaged with controller issues. They are also going after CE devices that format memory issues e.g removable SD. The memory itself e.g NAND is nothing more than a dummy that has write /flash(erase) programming ability....the brain of any combination above is the controller and the ROM code.

e.Digitals interests are, for the most part, in the ROM code and caching sequence(108 claim 1) that detail data as it is transmitted to the NAND memory or whatever type memory is considered. The novelty of the patent is in the way the data is detailed.

"bet this raw nand is where iz seeing pure nand used,,, sure seems suspicious."

emit, 108 is not hardened to removable memory only. 108 references 774 as, a for instance device.
