Apple Wants ContentGuard Patents Invalidated Amid Trial

Law360, Los Angeles (November 19, 2015, 10:13 PM ET) -- Apple urged on Thursday the Texas federal judge overseeing the trial in its digital rights management patent infringement dispute with ContentGuard to declare the company’s five asserted patents invalid, saying all the evidence presented at trial showed they covered ineligible subject matter.
In a motion for judgment as a matter of law on patent invalidity, Apple Inc. argued that evidence showed that ContentGuard Holdings Inc.’s patents cover generalized programming for common computer functionality and thus don’t have any inventive concepts.
