From what I understand the threshold for granting an IPR review is very low. If there is one claim of one patent that could reasonably be struck or modified, they grant the IPR. Much like a preliminary hearing in a criminal trial. Is there enough evidence to take it to trial? Many that go to trial are found in favor of the defendant in the case of a criminal trial, but there was a reasonable enough doubt that the process was necessary. IF these patents are what Edig claims they are, these defendants will pay something at some point in time. This is part of the negotiation process, who will cave first--who will run out of money first--what whale will join our fight and have the time and staying power to sue all the rest? I think the new symbol next to the edigital name should have been a glacier because we seem to move at the speed of one.
