An article and link ( added highlights) :
In a move which marks another small acquisition by Google, the company has revealed in a recent announcement that it has hired the team behind link management startup Kifi. The links might be used for other applications and platforms as well. Google is keeping mum on the specific details of the deal. We also haven't heard much from Google since it launched Spaces in May, and that led me to think that maybe Google will simply kill it off citing a lack of public interest in it. But now, the team behind knowledge sharing app Kifi has announced that it's been acquired by the search giant and will be joining the Spaces team - so I guess the funeral has been delayed for the time being. It looks like Spaces could use the help.
Google rolled out the app earlier this year and it failed to get to the heart of consumers. As Facebook tries to integrate various search and sharing abilities in its social network to challenge Google, the latter is working on apps equipped with complex, sophisticated tools and access to in-house services that it possesses in abundance. The service will remain alive for another few weeks and then it will be limited to data exports only. The mission at Kifi has always been to connect people with knowledge. Despite the fact that the app's days are numbered, the technology behind it will keep growing.
"Our team will be joining the Spaces team at Google to build solutions focused on improving group sharing, conversation, and content finding", Kifi said on its website. Kessler's post on Google+ explains the upcoming process. "Really excited about this team", Bradley Horowitz, VP of Google Spaces, wrote in a Google Plus post. Till date, Google has unveiled about around 200 acquisitions. Other notable elements include Google boosting up its social and apps team with the purchase of Pie, an app that resembles Slack. Albeit small, the acquisition shows that Google is looking at expanding its services. Google when it had launched the Spaces app said it wanted to build a "better group sharing experience", although the app was confusing in terms of what it sought to do for customers.
