It's a simple rectangular battery powered attachment, placed over the face of the analog dial type reader. It sends a signal via radio frequency, every 6 hours for about 2 seconds. The battery lasts up to10 years. It's not about leaks, but costs savings and accuracy, plus most meters are in the back yard, locked gates, dogs....
