Would I be wrong to interpret it as saying that we had not been getting “the currently fielded base of 8000+ IFE units” and thus not yet profitable?
Wrong? No, I`d say you walked into an orchard of apple trees and orange trees and came out with a handful of walnuts. Here`s the long version of what Blakely was saying...
We can make a profit by selling something less than 4000 of these a year, if we can get the sales money and additional (unspecified) dollars for services or content that we`re offering also.
If I remember right, we burn about $250,000 per month, about $3million per year. $3mil / 4000 units = $750.00 per unit. Numbers are all approximate, since 1) I don`t know for sure the burn rate 2) I don`t know what the number ``8000+`` really is and 3) Blakeley doesn`t say how much less than half of that ``8000+`` is what we need to make a profit.
So, the thinking is that we can make $750 over the course of a year off of one unit (initial sales $ + ``$ for fully implemented stuff``). I wonder if the units of the first year keep giving us fully implemented stuff dollars the second year and all years going forward.
