Thanks for your note into the alaskaair.com Newsroom. I manage our inflight
entertainment product, the digEplayer, and am happy to answer your questions.
Depending on the time of year, digEplayers are available on between 12 and 15%
of our daily departures. They are specifically targeted at our transcontinental
flights (out of Los Angeles, Seattle, and Anchorage) and a few select
others--all digEplayer flights are over 3 hours. So the Los Angeles--Cabo San
Lucas flight, being roughly two hours, does not meet that requirement.
And you`re right, these portable devices, both in the air and on the ground at
your local electronics store, are just getting better and better, lighter and
lighter, and come with more functionality each year. Offering a durable,
consistent, and simple form of inflight entertainment that is route-specific,
as opposed to retrofitting our entire fleet with other costlier forms of IFE,
helps us keep our operating costs down, which in turn helps us offer low fares.
Subject to change anytime of course! Thanks for writing and flying Alaska
Airlines!
Sincerely,
XX
