You can earn activity points by filling your profile with information about yourself (what city you live in, your favorite team, blogs etc.)
Where did you see that information on the "delay" only being slightly? The only thing I have seen is the response through this site....which did not give very much info at all.
I do think you are right about NPSP....should be any day!!
