If you are talking about the appearance of manipulation, it could come from anyplace, or no place.  Sharp traders who know nothing about the company could be watching for opportunities like this and they could be trading merely upon numbers and price movement.  Releasing what might be viewed as good news during business hours does, however, seem to open such opportunity for whoever is watching, in my considered opinion of course.
