The last few days of trading in the gold market seem to show little concern for this matter. Without other news to affect it in the next few hours, it will be interesting to watch the opening price in Asia a few hours from now. Demand there is not limited to China alone so "controlled" news in that country by itself should not exert that much influence.
Having said all of that, I suspect this to be a non-issue, at least for now.
Going back to a "Kickedoff" comment, and while not being an engineer, I would suspect that blocks making up the Three Gorges Dam could be stabilized by placing piers against them on the downstream side. I think that would be relatively inexpensive compared to alternatives. But as I said, I am not an engineer, nor a hydrologist. Call me an "Imagineer".
