Drilling does not have to be centered on a single spot.  A "fenceline", as it is called, can extend across many lengths of ground where one can cite, "previous drilling shows...".  So that can later result in a number of different ownerships being able to use those words. 

However, I don't know the details related to the previous drilling said to have been done by Asarco.
