Gahcho Kue, the world's largest new diamond mine in the last 13 years, officially began commercial production March 2, 2017. The mine, a joint venture with The De Beers Group of Companies (51%) and Mountain Province Diamonds (MPVD.TO, MPVD, 49%), is expected to produce near 54 million carats of rough diamonds over its lifetime. Production ramp up began on August 1, 2016. MPVD rose 1.6% in US after hours.
