Apart form the Mine at Minto (Capstone Mining) another play in the area is the Carmacks Copper project by Western Copper, which has gone through feasibility and is in the permitting stage. Because of the price of copper, the future of this project seems uncertain. The past producing Mount Nansen Mine is in receivership, but may have potential to still host gold. Like many mines, it was never entirely depleted.
The most exciting new find in the immediate area, apart from NFR, was made by Firestone Ventures, (FV.V) in the Sonora Gulch area, in 2006. They had good silver/gold results in their district sized property, but it is still at an early stage.
Firestone decided to spin this property off to a new company in order to focus on their main deposit, a zinc play in Ecuador. The new company, Northern Tiger Resources(NTR.V) , has these gold properties as well as some gold properties contributed by Sherwood Resources (now Capstone Mining). As such, Capstone has a vested interest in Northern Tiger, and You could consider it "in their bullpen."
The timing of the NTR spinoff was unfortunate -excellent property, great results, completely the wrong timing. An NI 43-101 report was completed and published on SEDAR recently, both at the FV and NTR filings.
