Dr Sobaih Al Sa’di
MUSCAT According to the astronomical calculations of the movements of sun, earth and moon, as well as the effects of the planets on the movements of moon, the crescent of Dul Hija month for the year 1433H will be born at three minute and 36 seconds past 4pm, on October 15 (local time), as the moon sighting in the same day will be impossible in the Sultanate and all Arab and Islamic countries.
The crescent will set 11 minutes before sunset (in Oman).
On October 16, moon can be sighted as the crescent will stay around 39 minutes after sunset, and it will be at 8 degrees height over the western horizon of the Sultanate sky. Moon will be visible in the Sultanate on the day, and so the first day of Dul Hija month will be on October 17. Arfa day will be on October 25 and the first day of Eid Al Adha will be on October 26.
