July 10 first day of Ramadhan

Tue, 25 June 2013

MUSCAT — The Main Committee for Moon Sighting at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, yesterday announced that July 9 (Tuesday) will be Shaaban 30, 1434 AH and July 10 (Wednesday) will be the first day of Ramadhan. The statement by the ministry reads as follows: Thanks be to Allah and Peace be Upon Him Prophet Mohammed, Family Members and Companions. The Main Committee for Moon Sighting announces that as per the astronomical calculation, the moon of Shaaban will be visible on Shaaban 29th 1434 AH before sunset in most parts of the Sultanate, and will remain visible for two minutes at maximum. In some areas, it may not be visible.

As per scientific norms, the notifications that are against reality and science will be dismissed as long as science rules out the possibility of sighting the moon in a decisive manner. The committee, thus announces that July 9, 2013 (Tuesday) will be on 30th Shaaban 1434 AH and that July 10, 2013 (Wednesday) will be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadhan. The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs takes this opportunity to congratulate His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for the advent of Ramadhan, appealing to Allah to ensure many happy returns of this month on His Majesty for many years to come. It also congratulates Omanis and the Islamic Umma on this blessed occasion. — ONA
