The Chinese prefer working in the shadows and keeping their buisness to themselves although they have surfaced on a few occasions with a cash infusion into Blackstone Group for an equity interest of 9.99% and their failed takeover of Union Oil.

It would be my thought that the Chinese hold 4.99% or less ownership in many US resource companies. A great transfer of wealth is taking place at an unprecedented pace. I don't know what percentage ownership of Canadian companies require filing with regulators but I would bet that they have been accumulating many of them near the reporting percentage thresholds as well. In the US, when you reach 5% ownership it requires notification to Cox and company at the SEC.
