Just took a look at the views from the webcams again, and at 9:40am there was enough light to see the river in both directions, up and downriver. The brightest view was from the library balcony looking north. Yesterday (at 5:30pm) it was all dark with cam 1 &2, but one could see something (not too far though) due to the lights around the parking lot at the Library.

Borden Lake, the Eastern portion where PRB claims are located is some 12km east of the cameras, hence it is too far to see. But, it belongs to the same weather system (it's been cold...cold) hence the lake should be frozen by now. If the ice in middle of the lake is not thick enough, one could build up the ice to enough thickness to provide good footing for the drill platforms (by pouring water on the ice, just like making an ice bridge for cars)... and start the winter drilling earlier. I have not built one before, but this would seem doable. Another way to do this (just some speculation) is to "freeze" the drill platform in ice, just like those ships which got stuck in the Antartica. Any comments, anyone?

Presumably somebody at PRB should know something about this. Perhaps we/I should contact PRB to get it directly from the horse's mouth.
