Your rephrase of "stink bid" to "opportunity bid" is fine and consistent with my latest post on the topic. Stink bidding is done for the sole purpose of having an opportunity to obtain cheap shares (could be at the expense of of the value of your total holdings). It's not a gesture to provide a support level for the SP.

If this is your first buy in then it would provide an opportunity to buy low and sell high, presumably.
