The NI-43-101 (a legal doc) a must-read document for a company. Usually, it would contain all key items for the company particular deposit, including among other things, the metallurgy and the flowsheet for the extraction process. As indicated, the recovery rate would significantly depend on the metallurgy. In some case, the metallurgy is quite different from one part of the deposit to the next. Before doing the actual extraction they may need to go through lab scale tests, pilot scale, even bulk sampling prototype scale to make sure that they have a reasonable recovery rate. In one example (ICG) they have various recovery rates from separate (near by) zones, ranging from 87% to 97% (which could mean millions in profit), due to the different metallurgy. Sometimes, the company may want to leave the low recovery rate ore aside (and do that in a separate "batch" with a more refined process to squeeze out more gold) to simplify the process for those with simpler metallurgy.
