Norman M. Betts

Dr. Betts is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick. He is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants. In 1992, Dr. Betts obtained a PhD in Management, specializing in finance, accounting and corporate governance, from the School of Business at Queen’s University. Dr. Betts has also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of New Brunswick, holding the positions of Minister of Business New Brunswick, Minister Responsible for Service New Brunswick and, from 1999 to 2001, Minister of Finance. In addition to the above qualifications and business experiences. He sat or perhaps still sits on the board of 6 power companies. Three public and three private. Power is always an issue with potential mining companies as well as the majors. He is well connected politically and is a no-nonsense type of guy. This means that Nigel knows him as both serve on the OAK BOD. When the issue of power comes up OAK and SGX will have the right guy to confer with. I think they definitely hand picked him for that reason and for his political connections and also because of all his mining related friends in the world of higher education.
