Focused on becoming a near-term Gold Producer
I think it may be that Kinross is happy to fly under the radar right now.
Why?
They get a significant stake in a junior exploration company which survived the market meltdown. Bruised and battered SP, but survived nonetheless, with some really good properties, some projects more advanced than others.
A lot of the early "heavy lifting" has been done, 43-101's begun, stripping, trenching, drilling, etc. Now, if all that preparatory work is on the cusp of delivering the payoff, it's a perfect time for a major to involve themselves. SP is still ridiculously low, so they can get in cheap and deliver a bit of relief by topping up the coffers with the Puma money, which in turn strengthens Sage's exploration abilities, as well as wards off any unwelcome predatory companies for the moment.
The upside for Kinross is they get to sit at the Sage table without attracting much market attention, which, if they like what they see going forward, will make it easy to soak up more market share. As well, it puts pressure on the area players, in my mind.
Why choose Sage over Kodiak, let's say? Is it something in the geology? Was Kodiak not interested in working with Kinross? Every exploration company means to sell to a major eventually, that's just the way the game is played. The juniors do the exploration and discovery, the majors swoop in and buy it and put it into production. That is, if the deposit is viable.
So, with Kinross sitting on the board of directors, they are privy to every document that crosses the desk now. ATEM's, VTEM's, drill results, surveys, assays, etc. From where they are now, they can keep an eye on the entire BGGC, from my way of thinking. And that can be a good thing, if the end game is being bought out by a major, or a bad thing, if you don't want to be bought out.....YET....while the price is low. So one could guess that area players are drilling like crazy, maintaining radio silence, and hoping for a good hit so that the SP will run, so that they can keep the wolves from the door until they're good and ready to entertain offers.
Which is why I believe Kinross won't be advertising their presence anytime soon. When they're satisfied with the stakehold they have, and their friends get loaded up on the cheap, and the drill results are excellent, then they'll shout it from the rooftops to retail to join in.
This stock will run when the big boys ALLOW it to, and not a moment before. Even though it's looking like we're due for a pop, I don't know how much, or when a sustained run might take place. Depends on results from the field, and we're not hearing much these days, but that should change soon.
