CEO Al French has worked in the Dominican Republic for 12 years, successfully obtaining mining entitlements and conducting metallic and non-metallic explorations on several projects.From 2005 to 2010, Al was the managing partner of Corona Materials, LLC. Corona Materials is involved in the quarrying, crushing and exportation of construction aggregates in the Dominican Republic. At Corona, Al managed exploration activities including sample collection, drilling, and analysis. From 2006 to 2011, he was the President and part owner of Walvis Investments, S.A. Walvis identified land parcels for the production of construction aggregates in the Dominican Republic.
Al attended Exeter College in Exeter, UK, studying science and engineering. He also studied Mine Engineering in the Dominican Republic. He is a commercial jet-helicopter pilot.
Michael O’Kelly BA, MBA,
Project Manager
The most recent addition to the Santo Mining team, Michael O’Kelly, has worked in the mining industry for more than 20 years. Those two decades of experience include participation in the exploration of potential mineral deposits in northern Chile as well as the Dominican Republic.
Within the latter, it’s important to note that O’Kelly assisted in projects for two of Santo Mining’s key competitors. He participated in exploration for Newmont Mining Corp. across the island and played a key role in the construction of Barrick Gold’s Pueblo Viejo mine from its feasibility studies to complete construction. His responsibilities included permitting, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), geotechnical drilling, government and community liaison and project management.
O’Kelly was recently awarded an MBA from the Canadian university Québec a Montréal (UQAM).
Mario Rafael Méndez
Director
Mario Mendez has more than 16 years’ experience specializing in environmental and social consulting services on major projects and in the mining sector in the Dominican Republic. Mario is Principal and Technical Vice-President of Consorcio Empaca-Redes, the Dominican’s leading environmental consulting firm. The list of projects on his CV is 19 pages long and too numerous to display here, but the sectors include: Mining, cement plants, industrial plants, electric power plants, gas plants, marine ports, marinas, cruise ports, international airports, most major beach & golf resorts & government projects. Clients include Envirogold, Barrick, Unigold, Carnival Cruise Line, Holiday Inns, Wyndam Resorts, Aerodom, Casa de Campo Resort, and the Minister of the Environment. Empaca represents Santo Mining Corporation in all environmental permitting and community relations. Mario graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo in 1985 (USAD was the first university in the western world) and is a candidate for Doctor of Sociology from University of Vasco, Spain.
Francisco “Ramoncito” Vasquez
Lead Exploration Scout
Francisco Vasquez, better known as “Ramoncito,” has worked for 30 years as a mineral scout for renowned geologists and mining exploration companies throughout the Dominican Republic.
Vasquez participated in the early exploration for the Rosario Resources Corp. in the areas around the mine site now known as Barrick Gold’s Pueblo Viejo. He has also participated in exploration for Minera Hispaniola SA, Everton Resources, and Newmont Mining Corp.
Reputed to be one of the most experienced gold scouts in the Dominican Republic, Vasquez has extensive local knowledge of the primary mineralized areas across the country.
Elpidio Moronta
Exploration Field Geologist
A seasoned Dominican Republic geologist, Elpidio Moronta has significant experience
within Pueblo Viejo and Cerro de Maimón, which straddle the Santo Mining claim. His initial
responsibility with Santo Mining has been supervising the exploration crew collecting soil
samples at the company’s flagship Walter claim.
From June 2007 to May 2008 Moronta worked with Placer Dome (taken over by Barrick
Gold), where he served as a geotechnical and geostructural geologist, identifying drill targets.
From May 2008 until August 2011, he served as a senior supervisor of the Process Plant and
Operations Control with Corporacion Minera at the Cerro de Maimón gold, silver, and copper
mine, now operated by Perilya. Most recently, he was with the respected firm of Rocas y
Minerales Dominicana, assigned to a wide variety of technical duties including geochemical
sampling.
Moronta graduated in 2002 with a degree in geology and mines from the Insituto Technologico
del Cibao Oriental.
