Gold is precious in that no force on Earth can make gold. Gold at the source is much more plentiful than we can imagine but so far from reach that it may as well be in space where it was made.

We can only hope to grab what has bubbled to the crust. The more geothermal activity the more gold has a chance to get close enough to the surface that we can find it. This area has obviously seen geothermal activity for many millions of years.
