Eto mentioned the environmental impact. We have had lot's of discussion about that, the conclusion was the small uproar was from a local group objecting to the destruction of the jungle by the informales miners.

However, my discussions with Murray raised an important point. Perhaps the Peruvian government are aware that there is a very good chance that a large scale (my words, not his) mill will be built and they are carefully looking at the environmental impact of the project, and this close scrutinization is more time consuming. This is a valid concern as a facility @ 2500 m is subject to alpine winds and the dust can carry towards the river. However this is easily managed as new technology for clean water (such as Genoil possess) is able to clean water to US standards in a very cost efficient way compared to older methods. Other than the river there is mostly adjacent wasteland desert that over millions of years has already been exposed to the winds of time, and a very sparse population for miles.
