That sounds like a big number, and I agree for SLI it is, but let's put it into perspective.
It represents less than 0.003% of our total share float. Which means that the remaining 99.997% of the float is held by longs, officially. I would suggest that this is why their activity does not have much of a lasting effect on the share price.
By comparison, there are some companies trying to cope with 10%, 20% and even more of their share float being shorted.
So don't worry about the daily fluctuations, on the next good NR, these guys will be gone.
