I got this from another board. I find it interesting in that it MAY be a way to rid a considerable short position. I wonder if we were to do this, would it affect a naked short position on us? Also, it may help with further separation of properties into other shares?
"So far I have not heard anyone mention this ...
One way for a company to bust shorts is to announce a "split", either forward or reverse. This causes every purported shareholder to prove up their holdings. SVM could announce a 3-for-4 forward split, keeps it tighter dilution wise. For every 3 SVM shares you get 4 shares after the record date. Then we would see who really has shares and who does not. Not to mention it would bring in more longs to overrun the shorts. What shareholder does not like a forward split, especially in a legit, well run and well capitalized company that is buying back its own shares? SVM could skip the dividends for that quarter and buy back shares with the dividends they did not pay out-or not!
Not many shorts would like that idea, especially of the naked variety! That would surely cause a lot of heat at the more exposed brokerages, since they would have to make up the shares of those shorts who claim force majeure. This would also send a clear message for those who plan illegal short ventures in the future.
Any other ideas along these lines out there? "
