Looks pretty obvious now that the blackout was called just for the company update news release. I know Murray said it was for something else but it has been so long I find that unlikely. Mangement was most likely surprised that the stock ran up so much on just a blackout that it had to say something else was coming or there would have been a mutiny (which there kind of was).
