It costs about $44 plus 15 minutes of time to file the annual report. I expect it is being done by the accountant as a matter of course, and until otherwise advised.
Also, did you ask if the company was in good standing? That would mean that the company has indeed filed the annual reports.
However not filing merely puts the company not in good standing, it does not mean the company is dissolved. That is up to the Registrar after two years of non filing. So it may be that the company has not filed, and the Registrar has taken no action.
