Message: settlement date?

So me being new to this trading thing, I am not sure how the transaction date and settlement date work. with the SLI sp dropping, I took advantage and stocked up a bit more. now my transaction date is Nov 29th, and my settlement date is Dec 05th. the funds did come out of my account already. now say on Nov 30th morning SLI comes out with a huge news release, and the stock was to jump to 5.00 or something silly, would the stocks I bought on the 29th be included. could I sell those stocks on the 30th or the first before my settlement date, and still get the 5.00 price? or can you only cash out after the settlement date? I probably sound like a real greenhorn, and the truth is I am, but friends have told me if I'm going to start trading, i wouldn't go wrong with the SLI stock, so I bought in awhile back, and I keep upping my shares each payday as I keep reading the Sli discussion forms and keep getting pumped for the drill reports. Thanks for your time

Rosco
