The Gold Standard thing never ever really existed in practice and was dispensed with for very good reasons. To go back to a falacy is no solution. Better regulation is the best path to follow and to ensure the regulation is effective it must NOT be directly under elected representation control. Rather, the Legislative body responsible for creating enforcible regulation with consequential teeth enshrined into the law should be held liable for failure of the Enforcement officials. The enforcement officials likewise should be liable for misconduct. A willingness to manage and legislate responsiblilty is all that is needed and if that fails, there is nothing Gold can do to fix things. That simple.
The way I see matters of Value.
