Message: FDA reverses itself, says Tyson can't claim "Raised Without Antibiotics"

Regarding, "Also, Tyson said it would cost "LESS than a dollar per pound" for chicken raised without antibiotics."

There is clearly posturing on both sides. It would be a real stupid business strategy to announce to the world that you can actually SAVE money by producing poultry without antibiotics. Why, this would be giving away potential profits. It is in the best interest of Tyson, and others, to allow the demand for antibiotic-free products to drive the market. They certainly have NO motivation to sell it for less money, and NO motivation to disclose any part of their business strategy to their competitors.

FWIW, the cost savings to the poultry producer is not in the cost of the product, but in the savings in feed costs (increased feed conversion), lower mortality rate, and lower condemnations, that allow the producer to bring more meat to market on less feed when using Agrastim. They can claim that it costs more to go antibiotic free, and technically, they are correct. But if they switch to Agrastim, in lieu of antibiotics, the potential net savings are measured in millions of dollars PER WEEK, when your are talking about a company on the scale of Tyson.
