In a day when airliners are used as bombs and police patrol the subways of NYC, what makes you think an unannounced visitor would be welcome at an industrial site? Did you have a letter of introduction? Did you get past the receptionist, or did they lock the doors and ask you to go away and phone Paul with your questions? Were you pleasant and friendly, or did you present yourself as antagonistic and negative? From the tone of your post, I have a suspicion they may have thought you were a nutcase.
