Seems like everything I read about the US gold reserve says that there has never been an accounting of how much gold is actually there and no one in the know is saying !!

The US Government does not seem to want to say what the actual amount of gold reserve is.  It does not make me feel warm and fuzzy towards our government.

 There was a joke going around a while back. 

President Bush has just taken office and as part of his familiarization routine goes on a tour of Fort Knox.  When he asks to see the gold the guy in charge shuffles his feet a bit and says, "well... you see Mr President... there actually isn't any gold."  Bush says "Quick!  Double the guard!"
