It's hard to know what to believe as we get different answers from different sources. Personally I like next week better than sometime in August which if you recall is when Serrano said the miners will be back to work by, at the latest. I've learned to take this day by day..........
The Embassy of Canada in Ecuador's commercial section has as part of its mandate to assist Canadian businesses (who fit our client profile) to succeed in our market. As such, the Embassy continues to assist several Canadian mining companies in Ecuador according to our service guidelines. For more information on what we do, please visit: www.infoexport.gc.ca
To the best of our knowledge, and as confirmed in local media, the latest draft of the new mining law was presented to President Correa by Minister Chiriboga of Mines and Petroleum on Friday June 27. As you are aware, this law has not yet been made public. We have been informed by various sources in the Ecuadorian government that the new mining law is unlikely to be made public before August 2008. However, it is assumed by many experts who follow this file closely that the law will be made public sometime in August.
We hope this information proves useful to you.
Sincerely,
Caroline Rochon-Gruselle
