Yes, if you know currents well enough and don't panic, you can get away from the rip currents by swimming with it until it brings you back close enough to shore ...to then swim across it long ehough to scape its grasp, and get back in calmer waters...

But even then this current that sweeps around that tip of Baja is so trecherous that the resorts on that side of the Land's End don't even allow swimmers to go in! They have patrols on quads that keep the stupid tourists out of that side of the Ocean....the other side is so much more pleasant to swim in, that they will transport you over there, and to Cabo town for free by resort bus.

If you are into diving or snorkeling then the best place in Mexico is off of cancun on the island of Cozamel...you either stay at resorts on the island, or take day trips by ferry boat to the island from the Mayan Riviera...or Cancun.

Cancun has the tourist night life, and the Riviera is all just resorts with their own entertainments.
