Henk Van Alphen
Position: President and CEO
Henk has been in the mining business for 23 years. First as an exploration contractor then as President of Pacific Rim Mining. Henk laid the foundation for Pacific Rim becoming a successful South American-based resource company. Henk was also instrumental in Cardero's entrance into South America.
Keith Henderson
Position: Vice President Exploration
Keith has been involved in mineral exploration since 1995. Having worked in Europe, Africa and North America, he has extensive expertise in a variety of deposit types and commodities including gold, zinc, nickel, copper and coal. Keith began his exploration career with the CSA Group, initially spending 3 years in Tanzania where he managed a large gold exploration program. He also worked extensively in Ireland on regional zinc exploration and in southern Africa on a range of exploration and development projects.
In 2001, Keith was employed by the Exploration Division of Anglo American plc, managing regional zinc exploration programs in Ireland and Canada, including a successful near-mine zinc exploration program at the Lisheen Mine (Ireland) in addition to initiating joint venture negotiations for exploration rights.
In 2005, Keith was transferred to Anglo American Exploration in Vancouver to add-value to a variety of North American nickel and copper projects. Most recently, he was Project Manager for Anglo Coal's newly incorporated Canadian subsidiary, managing all aspects of project start-up together with an extensive exploration and resource definition program.
Keith was educated in Ireland, graduating from Queens University Belfast with B.Sc. (Hons) Geology and subsequently from University College Dublin with M.Sc. Petroleum Geology.
Mark Cruise
Position: Vice President Business Development
Mark spent eight years employed by Anglo American plc in grassroots and mine site settings. As a member of Anglo's Lisheen Mine feasibility/technical team in Ireland, he planned and supervised the project-definition and geotechnical drilling programs before going on to initiate district - and country-wide base-metal exploration. In 2001, Mark joined Anglo's Vancouver office, where he held the position of Senior Geologist Copper/Zinc and was responsible for the company's copper and zinc portfolio, including project generation and implementation in Canada, USA, and Mexico.
Most recently Mark was project manager for Anglo's Baja California Norte - IOCG Belt project, designing and implementing the regional exploration program which has resulted in the definition of the high priority San Fernando and Amorgosa targets.
Tansy O'Connor-Parsons
Position: Senior Geochemist
Tansy has 7 years experience acquired in a variety of geological settings. Most recently, she worked as Quality Control Geochemist for Anglo American Exploration (Canada) Ltd. While with Anglo, Tansy planned and executed various geochemical sampling programs for copper and zinc in both Canada and Mexico, including interpretation of geochemical data, database implementation and assessing the quality control of the analytical data.
Tansy recently completed her M.Sc. (Geology) at Acadia University, Nova Scotia on the world-class Golden Mile Deposit, Western Australia.
Mike Kinley
Position: CFO
Mike possesses extensive public company experience and, the financial qualifications to play an important roll as the Company continues to rapidly expand. Mike received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1973, was admitted to the Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia in 1980 and the Chartered Accountants of British Columbia in 2003 and was a partner for a large national accounting firm.
Stephan Fitch
Position: Director
Mr. Fitch brings to Cardero a broad range of international corporate finance and investment banking experience gained over 20 years. Mr. Fitch is co-founder and Managing Director of IAG Holdings Limited, a Gibraltar-based holding company for equity investments, and a co-founder and partner in IA Group Ltd., an American corporation, which specializes in merchant and investment banking. The firm's activities include specialized financings, corporate restructuring, licensing technology transfers, mergers and acquisitions and strategic advisory projects.
Larry Talbot
Position: Director
Lawrence is a partner of the Vancouver law firm of Gowlings, Lafleur Henderson LLP. Mr. Talbot has experience in mining, corporate finance, securities and general corporate and commercial matters since 1986. He has extensice experience acting for public companies in the mining sector and providing advice on all aspects of their business.
Len Harris
Position: Director
Leonard Harris (metallurgist) has a long and successful career in the mining industry. Of great importance to Cardero is Len's career in Peru where he was President of Newmont Peru Limited and General Manager of Minera Yanalocha South America. It was under Len's leadership that Yanacocha became South America's most successful gold mine.
Dr. Murray Hitzman
Position: Technical Advisor
Dr. Hitzman is one of the world's foremost authorities on Iron Oxide Copper-Gold (IOCG) deposits. In 1992 Dr. Hitzman co-authored the seminal paper on IOCGs prior to publishing one of the first papers on the origin of the giant Olympic Dam IOCG deposit in 1993. Dr Hitzman has worked in all of the major global IOCG districts including Cardero's frontier Baja IOCG Belt.
Murray Hitzman received BA degrees in Earth Science and Anthropology from Dartmouth College in 1976, an MS in geology from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1978, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1983.
In 1993, Dr. Hitzman was named Geological Society of America Congressional Fellow and served from September, 1993 to August, 1994, on the staff of U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman (D - CT) working on natural resource and environmental issues. Dr. Hitzman was named Executive Branch Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement for Science/Sloan Foundation during 1994. As the Executive Branch Fellow he served as a senior policy analyst in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from September, 1994 through March, 1996 specializing in natural resource, environmental, and geoscience issues.
