At present, I am aware of five extremely well known investing authorities predicting an imminent sell off in equities. They range from a decline to S&P 600 level (presently 1029) and that is the most favorable of the forecasts. Others range to as low on the Dow as 3000 (currently 9544). All of them have extremely good forecasting abilities and records over several decades and would be familiar names to any who follow investing. The most pessimistic is extremely well known and in forty years has never missed a major market turn up or down.
As to Obama, we are in agreement. As of now, I project he will serve at most, one term. With many of the people he has surrounded himself with, particuarly some of his Czars, being appointed with no Congressional approval and in many cases exposed as radical extreme leftist elements of the most radical sort and his popularity seven months into his term already at extreme lows, he may not survive beyond one term politically.
By the way, LBJ's program was called "The Great Society". Must say, my knowledge of Canadian political figures however, is not as good as your knowledge of US figures.
